About Mountain Heart Woodworks

Brad’s dad Don, and great grandpa George Zechaiah, and Uncle Jim. 5 generations of making an honest living.

Mountain Heart Woodworks is a family owned and operated local Sawmill/Lumber Yard based in Elbert, Colorado. We promote sustainable wood products from the devastation of the mountain pine beetle. We bring blue pine lumber from the heart of the mountains to the front range and plains of Colorado.

Our goal is to build lasting relationships with our lumber customers and deliver quality lumber material at an affordable cost. We value the quality of our work and we achieve it by taking a hands on approach to every board we cut.

We have over 35 years of experience in woodworking, building, logging, and milling lumber which helps us produce lumber that our customers desire. We always ask our customers what they are trying to achieve with their projects and with our industry experience we are able to deliver lumber material tailored to our customers expectations.

BRAD PICKREL: SAWMILL BOSS
I grew up learning the trades from my father, Don Pickrel, a general contractor and master craftsman. My dad taught me the value of a hard day’s work and the importance of running a business with honesty and integrity. I have always cherished the instruction my father taught me as a young man and I strive to live and run my business by the same values.

I’ve been making sawdust in one form or another for the last 30 years as a builder, woodworker, logger, and sawyer. As a young man living in Llano, New Mexico I got into the logging industry and fell trees commercially for several years before buying my own sawmill (the same brand mill that we run today) cutting rough cut lumber and making vigas and latillas for building contractors in Santa Fe. I returned to Colorado, my home state, and started a construction business building post frame buildings for agricultural and commercial use for 20 years, having constructed over 700 buildings.

I left the construction business and created Mountain Heart Woodworks to follow my passion as a sawyer and woodworker. I am very passionate about Mountain Heart Woodworks and with the help of my wife Sue and my son’s Cale and Garrett the tradition of our family business lives on!

SUE PICKREL: MOMMA BOSS
Of all the adventures in business that Brad and I have undertaken, Mountain Heart Woodworks is by far the most fulfilling and interesting for me. It is rewarding in that eventually every part of the logs are used, from the beautiful blue lumber to the sawdust!
